"Why is God so keenly interested in mankind?" goes an old Jewish maxim. The answer: "Because he loves stories." After graduating and serving in the 82nd Airborne Division, I left the Army in 1958, attended graduate school, was divorced, worked as a physicist for a number of years, remarried and … decided to start life all over again. With my wife Marion and infant son John, we moved to British Columbia in 1970, settling at our present site in 1972. For decades we lived off the land and out of the woods, with modest income principally from Marion's part-time work as dialysis nurse in nearby communities, augmented by my sometimes contributions from work as campground attendant, cable ferryboat operator, technical writer on contract, and creative writing. Now we are retired, I suppose. We live for the most part as others: out of the grocery store. At about age 50, I fell into old ways, studying physics intensely in leisure time. If there is something in my life worthy of the interest of mortals, I suggest it resides in my ideas - in my book, an expression of my own personal opinions, and at my Web site, a continuing collection of careful mathematical demonstrations.
