Biography (2001)

I attended Stamps High School from 1939 - 1950

Those were the best of times and the worst of times

I had some wonderful teachers and some not so wonderful. Teachers those days taught the unteachable and those that didn"t want to learn like me. I didn"t study very hard when I went to school just enough to get by and barely. Teachers then were TEACHERS and not just EDUCATORS as they are now they knew what was necessary to get the lessons across to their students. I know this because as little as I tried to learn in school in 1956 I took the College GED and passed it without any brushing up or studying the material. This shows we had some great teachers.

I had a few good friends in school and I really liked three of the girls in my class one more than the others I won"t name them as I don"t want to embarrass them they know who they are.

I entered the United States Air Force in July 1951. Took basic at Lackland AFB Texas. First technical schools were at Sheppard AFB, Texas. I went from there to Chanute AFB, Ill. From there to Hanscomb Fld, Massachusettes.

My stateside bases were Lackland AFB TX. Sheppard AFB TX, Chanute AFB Ill. Hanscomb Fld Massachusettes, Andrews AFB Maryland, Wright Patterson AFB Ohio, and England AFB Louisiana.

Over seas Stations were Burtonwood England, Bitburg AFB Germany, Clark AFB Phillipines, Lajes Field Azores, and UBON AFB Thailand.

My career field in the service was aircraft maintenance primarily Jet Engines. I worked Jet engine test cells for 17 years of the 24 years I was in the Air Force.

All during this time I played guitar professionally every where I was stationed and continued to play after I retired in 1975, up until Dec 1983. I then played in churches for the next 7 years. I started out playing Lead Guitar and did so until the mechanicing did so much damage to the first finger on my left hand then I switched to Pedal Steel Guitar in 1962.

After I retired from the Air Force I got an associates degree in Accounting along with my Associates Degree in Aeronautical Sciences. I worfed in Credit Unions as a Collections Officer and did pretty well at it.

My first wife and I separated in 1979 and I moved to Arizona. Nena and I got married in 1984 it was the best thing I could have done as she calmed my temper down and kept me out of trouble. But it was God who did the work in my life.

I have 6 children with my first wife, Kathie, Mike, Steven, Richard, Thomas and Elizabeth. They have all proved to be smarter than their dad, all have gotten a good education. Thomas passed away in 1991 with Aids Nena & I were his caregivers during the last 10 weeks he lived. I wouldn"t want to do it again but we were so blessed by being able to do something for him. His so-called friends just left him.

Nena has 3 children Peggy, Kenneth and Cindy

Between us we have 20 grand kids and 3 greatgrand kids with another on the way.

We are blessed because all our kids like both of us mine and hers they treat us like Mom and Dad.

I have had a full life Nena & I both retired totally in 1998. We are looking forward to the future.
