1951

Biography (2001)

I was born in Cotton Valley, LA on July 18, 1933. My family moved to Stamps in 1947 where I graduated in 1951 (but you guys all know this). Ed Hatfield and I beat the draft by joining the Marine Corps in August 1953 and I was discharged three years later. I graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Pharmacy in 1959.

After graduation I went to work in Jonesboro, LA where I met and married my first wife the following year. We had two children, Kathryn born in 1961 and John in 1962. Both children had outstanding athletic careers in Hanesville, LA. Kathryn became a radiologist receiving her M.D. from LSU and practices in the Dallas area. John matriculated at Baylor Dental School in Dallas. He is in practice in Coppell, TX. Both are married and have two children each. I owned and operated Bond Pharmacy in Haynesville until 1983, at which time my first wife and I divorced and I moved to Temple, TX.

In Temple I opened a pharmacy under a lease arrangement with Wal-Mart in 1984. In 1987 I married my second wife, Jenny. We live in Temple, TX. In 1992 I retired selling my store to Wal-Mart. In 1994 I started working at the Temple Veterans Hospital part time where I work today. In September of 2000 Temple College sponsored me in a one-man art show where I hung 40 works.

Jenny and I enjoy visiting museums, galleries, and art shows. We visited the Louve in November of 2000; Jackson, MS in April where we saw Andrew Wyeth's personal art collection of his friends and neighbors, and went to Ireland in May of this year to practice art. I am taking an art class presently at Temple College. Jenny is keeping busy taking an art class and a Bible study. We enjoy collecting fine art, which consist of paintings, sculpture, and old master etchings.
