Biography (OCT 2009)

I am a libertarian, isolationist, agnostic who practices the "Golden Rule".

I was born in Brookland AR near Jonesboro AR, on 12 November 1933 to Thomas Roland Sims and Roma Hazeline Barringer Sims. My Dad worked for the Cotton Belt Railroad as a Clerk Telegrapher and Station Master, and my Mom was a Homemaker and sometime School Teacher. I had a younger brother, Bill.

We moved to Stamps AR in 1937, moved to Pine Bluff AR for my 6th grade year and then back to Stamps. We lived in Bearden AR for my 9th grade. moved back to Stamps, and I graduated from Stamps High School in 1951.

After graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point NY in 1955, I served five plus years as a navigator in the U.S. Air Force in Florida, Texas and New Jersey.

I was a Registered Representative for several NY Stock Exchange Member firms and then ran the Trust Investment Departments for several large banks in New York and New Jersey. I closed out my investment career by trading financial futures on the Chicago Board of Trade as a member Introducing Brokerage Firm.

I was married from 1960 to 1980 to Lynn Nelson Sims and we had three children Betsy, Tom C. and Richard. My second wife was Mary Parks Sims and I married Georgia Langley Sims in 1989. Georgia and I had a very happy marriage until we lost her battle with lymphoma cancer in 1998.

Several months after I lost Georgia, I was playing video poker at the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas when Susan Grimm started playing on the machine next to mine. I initiated a conversation (which is very out of character for me), invited her to lunch and learned that she was a tourist from Ohio who was in Las Vegas for a weekend gambling trip. We spent the rest of the weekend together and about six weeks later (after a lot of long distance calls) she had quit a very good job, sold her car and condo and retired to Las Vegas to live happily ever after with me.

And that's how it has worked out.

We are expert video poker and live poker players and play several hours every day in a local casino and/or on the internet. Not many people make money gambling - but we do - by playing games where we have a mathematical advantage (video poker) or play better than other players (live poker).

I was probably the first to record play-by-play accounts of final table action at major poker tournaments  ( Andy Bloch Project) , which I did at the 1996 - 1998 World Series of Poker. My internet reports are archived on the   ConJelCo World Series of Poker  site.

I spend a lot of time every day running the   vpFREE Video Poker Group  which has over 10,000 members, the   Stamps High School Class of 1951  web site, and the   West Point Class of 1955  web site.

We love our life and we're having a ball.
