Robert Olson
was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was an Army Brat. He was always
interested in airplanes, and became a Private Pilot in 1945 and
organized and led a High School Flying Club at Columbus H.S.,
in Columbus, Georgia. Preparing for admission to West Point,
he entered Sullivan's Prep School in Washington, DC, in the fall
of 1946. This led to his joining the Class of 1951 at West Point
in the summer of 1947. Graduation led to Pilot training at Spence
Field, Georgia and Brian, TX. He graduated from Pilot school
in 1952, and married his wife Mildred.
He was assigned to many fighter units and
a B-47 unit filled his career. He retired in 1975. He worked
for a small commuter airline as Chief of Maintenance and later
moved to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida, where
he served as the Chairman of the Maintenance of Technology Department.
In the early 80's he became Vice President of Operations and
Maintenance for Cochise Airlines. And later, he became the Site
Manager for Maintenance for the U.S. Customs Service Unit at
Davis Monthan AFB. He retired in 1992, and turned to volunteer
work that he had been doing for ten years.
He served the Boy Scout community,
and was recognized with the Silver Beaver Award. He served on
the staff of the National Boy Scout Jamboree at Fort. A.P. Hill,
Virginia. He was also active in the Ham Radio community. He was
active in Gideons International, and served in many positions
of leadership on the State Cabinet, to include Chaplain, Secretary,
Vice President and President.
Bob and Millie have three children, five
grand-children, and three great-grandchildren.
