INTRODUCTION
The Instructor's Manual offers the following features for each chapter in the Robbins text:
1. Chapter Outline
2. Chapter Synopsis
3. Chapter Learning Objectives
4. Key Terms
5. Annotated Outline
6. Point-Counterpoint Summary and Analysis
7. End-of-Chapter Discussion Questions
8. Teaching Guide for In-Text Excercise
9. Case/Video Case Teaching Notes
10. Lecture Supplements
11. In-Class Activities
12. Using ACUMEN
13. Using TIPS
The following is an elaboration on each of these features.
1. Chapter Outline. The chapter outline consists of a brief overview of topics to be covered.
2. Chapter synopsis. The outline is followed by a condensed summary, or synopsis, of the material involved in those topics. This section is designed to provide you with a quick review before class or as you begin to prepare your lectures.
3. Chapter Learning Objectives. The learning objectives for each chapter are listed. When students have finished readingd and studying a chapter, they should be able to answer these statements.
4. Key terms. Definitions of key terms that first appear in the particular chapter are provided here in alphabetical order. These are also in the Glossary in the text.
5. Annotated outline. This is simply a summarization of the material covered in each section. Space is provided for personalized notes at the end of each section.
6. Point-counterpoint summary and analysis. The point-counter-point dialogues at the end of each chapter have proven to be an excellent device for stimulating class discussion and getting students to consider two sides of an issue. A summary and analysis of the point-counterpoint dialougues are included.
7. End-of-chapter discussion questions. All the end-of-chapter discussion questions are repeated and answers are provided. Some of these questions draw directly upon material from the book, while others emphazize integration or application.
8. Teaching guide for in-text exercises. Suggested answers and/or instructions for evaluating exercise scores are provided here.
9. Case/video case teaching notes. These are essentially case summaries with answers to case questions. Where apprpriate a summary is provided for the related video.
10. Lecture supplements. For most instructors, the lecture is the main classroom activitiy, two lectures for each chapter have been included. Some are brief ideas while others provide fairly complete, detailed information for developing a lecture.
11. In-class activities. Many instructors like to get students involved in a class activity that can reinforce or elaborate upon one or more concepts introduced in a chapter. Included are one or two in-class activities for each chapter, in addition to the exercises and cases in the text.
12. Using ACUMEN. Many of the twelve dimensions in ACUMEN can be directly related to topics and issues in each chapter. The relevant dimensions are identified and how scores on the dimensions are related to managerial effectiveness is noted.
13. Using TIPS As with ACUMEN, many of the behavioral dimensions that make up the TIPS program can be directly related to topics and issues in he text. These are cross-referenced in the IM.
