My Ford '73 Stationwagon
My ninth life ended (exactly 29 years after my fifth ended) in Albuquerque on January 4, 1974
at the corner of Indian School Road and Juan Tabo on my morning commute to the AEC at Kirtland Air Force Base when
I was hit by a Falcon Ford and scooped up and tossed into the arroyo at that intersection. The driver, T. Hartshorn,
told Cici's classmates that he had hit a man made out of brick.
It was a very cold morning and I left the house early as I had an important appointment. Vince Vespe wanted me to meet
with Major General Ed Giller, head of DMA at Germantown, MD. We were living at the house on Blueridge in noretheast
Albuquerque and the car had stayed outside. It was cold and I did not warm up the engine. When I got to Indian School Rd
on Juan Tabo, it stalled on me. I could not get it started. There was filling station across the street. I started to
walk across. A Ford Falcon going East on Indian School turned left on me and tossed me into the arroyo at the intersection.
Had I kept the appointment with General Giller I might have been offered a position at DMA and I would have gone back to
Washington again.
