ROBERT C. STENDER (better known as Bob) was born in Platteville, Wisconsin, on 22 December 1925. His parents were Henry and Erma (Huntington) Stender.

At an early age, Bob moved with his family to Madison, Wisconsin. He was active in Boy Scouts of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended East High. Bob was president of the student government and of several school clubs. His main interests were in government, writing and debating. He was a member of the National Honor Society.

For one year, Bob attended the University of Wisconsin. He served in the Infantry before he received his appointment to the Military Academy.

At West Point, Bob's primary interests were in debate and ice hockey. He was an honor graduate-second in his Class. He received the award of Distinguished Cadet. His commission in the Air Force was non-rated.

While Bob was in the United States Air Force, he served in technical intelligence both in the United States and Europe. He attended Harvard University as a Littauer Fellow. Here he received his Master's in Public Administration. Bob was Assistant Professor of Economics at the United States Military Academy. While instructing at West Point, he met and married Genevieve Berkwitz from Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from Vassar College.

Bob left the military service to satisfy his personal desire to be an entrepreneur. He worked for Union Carbide and Itek in plan- ning, trouble shooting, and management before entering the computer field. He helped many smaller companies get started and to grow. He later was in top management at Memorex and Intel.

Bob's last dream was to have his own company-"Carefree Data Systems." He died suddenly from a heart attack before this company became a reality.

Bob will always be remembered as fun-loving, adventurous, ambitious, brilliant and caring. He never said "no" to fellow cadets who sought his help in academics at West Point. He was deeply respected by those who knew him. Bob was a loving husband and devoted father to his four sons.

Bob is survived by his mother, Erma Stender; his two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Le-Eldra and Harriet; his wife, Genevieve; and his four boys, Randall, Todd, Kevin and Craig.
