E-mail Print PDF

Alumni and Friends of West Point

On behalf of the members of the West Point Society of the Tennessee Valley, you are cordially invited to attend the celebration of the United States Military Academy's, Founders Day 2008, at the new Davidson Center for Space Exploration, United States Space and Rocket Center, Huntsville, Alabama, on Friday, 7 March 2008.  Benny Haven’s hour will begin at 6:30 PM, with dinner at 7:30 PM.  Dress is formal (Mess or Dress Blues, tuxedo, business suit, or cocktail dress).

This year as part of the 50th Anniversary of the launching of the Explorer I satellite by the US Army, we will be recognizing the contributions that West Pointers have made to Space Exploration.  The Davidson Center for Space Exploration holds one of three remaining Saturn V rockets and will have only been opened a short time before our Founders Day.  The Apollo Courtyard, outside the Davidson Center is where our Society has sponsored purchasing bricks in honor of 38 known West Pointers who have made or are making a contribution to Space Exploration.  The dedication of these bricks is being planned for earlier in the day and following letter will announce the details.  I have attached the listing of names being recognized.

The guest speaker for the dinner will be Colonel (ret) Jeffrey Williams, Class of 1980; he currently is a NASA Astronaut.  Jeff has had missions on board the Space Shuttle and a six month mission on board the International Space Station.

Our dinner will be salad with assorted dressings, a choice of Grilled Marinated Chicken Breast, Tenderloin of Beef Wellington, or Grilled Grecian Grouper along with Roasted Potatoes, Green Bean Almondine, rolls, Raspberry White Chocolate Cake for desert, with wine for toasting, and coffee/tea.  We will be dining and honoring West Pointers within the new museum that has been especially constructed toward recognizing Space Exploration.

Please join us to renew old acquaintances, meet graduates in our area, salute our Alma Mater on its 206th Birthday, and have fun.  This year we will be accepting reservations by either electronic means or by regular mail.  Please respond by the dates noted on the attached reservation form or by accessing our Society’s by accessing our online registration form
