The West Point Society of Southwest Virginia was organized in 1995 and was the only Society in the history of West Point's Association of Graduates to be awarded the designation of Distinguished Society the year of inception. We followed this auspicious start with a second award for 1997 and a third for 1998!. Society membership is open to all graduates, former cadets, and cadet families associated with the United States Military Academy in Southwest Virginia and neighboring areas of North Carolina and West Virginia.. Our purpose is to assist recruiting for the Academy, support for the Cadet families, and further the interests of graduates in the area, We provide a forum for the celebration of traditional functions such as Founders Day in February, a Christmas Leave dinner for area cadets, their families, and prospective New Cadets, and the Army/Navy game party, usually held at the Hidden Valley Country Club in Roanoke, with the participation of all our local Navy fans! Announcements of specific functions will be distributed through our Email listserver and entered here in our News section. Membership dues are $ 25 per year or $ 60 for three years. Dues notices are sent out to all known addresses by January each year. Our treasurer is Jerry Burgess ‘69 and checks may be sent to: West Point Society of Southwest Virginia (WPS SW VA) 69 Bluegrass Lane Fincastle VA 24090-3494
We publish the most comprehensive directory in our geographical area, with over 600 addresses throughout southwest Virginia and neighboring North Carolina and West Virginia. This directory will be available on this web site as a direct dowload in Excel. You may either download to your hard drive, or view direct in your browser window. The file is password protected and available to those who have paid current dues. Members without electronic download capability will be snail mailed paper copies. Updates will be provided only to the electronic version. The paper version will be published yearly. You'll see we also have links to our cadets currently at the Academy. This has a number of purposes. We hope to establish links to the community, so friends and family can stay in contact with these exceptional young people who have chosen a career path leading away from SW Virginia. As strong as they are, they like to stay in contact with those from home and email is always a pleasant surprise. A second purpose is unabashedly recruiting! The more information young people in SW Virginia have about West Point and the opportunities involved in an Army career, the larger our applicant pool becomes. We have an active recruiting program run by our Society President and MALO (Military Admissions Liaison Officer) Major Keith Raines. No later than Spring of your junior year your file should be activated The first step for those interested in West Point is to visit the Admissions Link. Then take advantage of the links to our cadets to get current information from people you probably already know. An appointment to West Point is a doorway to a world class education, an opportunity to serve your country in the Army, and a guaranteed job upon graduation.
