MINUTES
BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
22 May 2001
1. ATTENDANCE. The Board of Directors of the West Point
Society of South Texas (WPSST) met at Luby's on Thousand
Oaks and Nacogodoches and convened at 1855 hours. Present
and constituting a quorum were Barth, Best, Betts, Bivens,
Hogan, Koehler, McLaughlin, and Thuss.
2. SECRETARY'S REPORT. (Koehler '76 ). The Minutes of the
24 April 2000 Board Meeting were reviewed. Resolved
(Bevins/Betts) to accept the Minutes as read. Approved
unanimously.
3. TREASURER'S REPORT. (Best, '74) The report for 24
April 2000 was submitted. Resolved (Thuss/Bevins) to
accept the Treasurer's Reports as published. Approved
unanimously.
4. MEMBERSHIP REPORT. (Coonan, '66) No report was
submitted because Coonan was not present.
5. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
ADMISSIONS: (Reported by Griffin, '58). Griffin
introduced three West Point Cadets who were here for a week
visiting local high schools. He informed the Board that
the value of a USMA education is $ 312, 120, and $ 254,980
for a USNA education and $ 305,945 for a USAF education.
PROGRAMS: (Reported by McLaughlin). Friday, 9 June
will be the next Luncheon at 1130 hours at the Fort Sam
Houston Officers' Club.
6. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
a. Founders Day 2001 guest speaker will be Rick
Greenspan, Director of Athletics.
b. Board selected Friday, 16 March 2001 as the primary
date for next years Founders Day, and Friday, 9 March 2001
as the alternate date. The first choice for a location is
the Randolph Air Force Base Officers' Club
c. Mark Cole has agreed to chair the Founders Day 2001
Program Committee.
d. Annual Presidents' Trip to West Point. Scheduled
for 22 - 24 June. Betts will represent the WPSST at this
meeting since McLaughlin is not available to attend.
7. NEW BUSINESS:
a. At the next meeting McLaughlin will appoint the
next Program Committee Chairman.
b. The issue of publishing obituaries in the Assembly
versus the Register was discussed.
c. The Board is short two members with the departure
of Gonzales and Martinez. McLaughlin asked for the Board
members to each nominate two individuals to serve the
unexpired terms of Gonzales and Martinez at the next Board
meeting.
8. The meeting adjourned (Betts/Hogan) by unanimous
consent at 2005 hours.
The next WPSST Board of Directors Meeting will convene at
1830 hours
on 26 June 2000, at Luby's on Thousand Oaks and
Nacogodoches.
