Brigadier General Donald G. Grothaus

Brigadier General Donald G. 'Nick' Grothaus passed away
Thursday, January 20, 2000 at The Army Residence
Community in San Antonio, Texas, after a brief illness.
Born in Lake City, Minnesota, Gen. Grothaus grew up in
Buffalo Center, Iowa. He attended the University of Iowa
and graduated from West Point, Class of 1936. While
stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, he met and
married his wife of 50 years, the former Dorothy de Funiak.
He retired from the U.S. Army after 30 years of service, at
which time he joined ALCOA in Pittsburgh, PA as Vice
President of Management Information Services. Gen.
Grothaus and his wife later retired to San Antonio. Gen.
Grothaus is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy
Grothaus; son, John F. Grothaus and sister, Dell
Heintzelman. Survived by: daughter, Jane G. Kearns and
husband, John of Buffalo, NY; and their children, Michelle,
Megan, Kevin and Jesse and Jeanne C. Grothaus of
Columbus, OH; and her children, John and Leslie.
