Colonel Robert Francis Cassidy

Col. Robert Francis Cassidy, US Army (Ret), born June 22, 1916 in Wauseca, Minnesota, died Thursday, December 2, 1999. He graduated from West Point, Class of 1939, and retired from the Army in 1965. He then went to California to work for Lockheed in Research and Development. In 1969, he was hired by Northrup and retired for the second time in 1979. Bob was a true Army aviation pioneer, superb trainer-logistician, and a major contributor to the success of Army Aviation from its inception. Bob was inducted into the Army Aviation Hall of Fame in April 1998. After the death of his beloved wife, Diann in 1991, he moved to the Army Residence Community in San Antonio, Texas, where, because of the tight knit camaraderie he happily spent his remaining years. As they say in the"' Organization of Quiet Birdmen, in which he was a proud member, "Bob Cassidy has gone West".

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Hazel Cassidy; sister, Lorraine Cassidy; brother, Donald Cassidy; and wife, Diann Cassidy. He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Michele (Chele) Cole, Lee and Frank Parli, stepson and daughter-in~law, Frank and Brenda Forrest; grandchildren, Christopher Roberts, Robin Roberts, Shannon and Jeffrey Harper, Leslie Barnes and Frank Forrest III; great grandchildren, Kassidi Roberts, Kelcee Roberts and Aundrea Harper.
