GUIDELINES FOR MEMBER CONDUCT
(West Point Society of New York)

  1. SOCIETY PURPOSE: As ratified by its Board of Governors, the purpose of the West Point Society of New York is to:

    "Provide an organization through which graduates, former cadets and other persons interested in fostering the principles and welfare of the United States Military Academy can maintain and enhance their comradeship, while simultaneously affording themselves the opportunity to gain insight into the important events of today and the anticipated developments of tomorrow with special emphasis on military and national security affairs."

  2. EXPECTED MEMBER BEHAVIOR: In keeping with the Society’s stated purpose, members are expected to:
    1. Demonstrate behavior that, in all aspects, is supportive of that purpose;
    2. Recognize that the viability and effectiveness of the Society could be impaired by the imprudent or improper conduct of even a single member; and,
    3. Be sensitive to and avoid any personal or professional conduct which is, or could be viewed as being, incompatible with the Society’s purpose, or exploitive of the Society or those who belong.

  3. STANDARDS FOR OFFICERS AND BOARD MEMBERS: Because of the visibility of their positions and the special responsibilities such service implies, Officers of the Society and members of the Board of Governors have a particular obligation to avoid situations in which their involvement is, or may be perceived as being, in conflict with the Society’s purpose.

  4. AREAS OF PARTICULAR CONCERN: Certain actions, in light of their potential impact, are specifically and definitively proscribed. Members of the Society should not:
    1. Misuse the membership roster or directory;
    2. Solicit business from other Society members in ways that could be construed as impairing the purpose, or conflicting with the fraternal nature, of the Society;
    3. Use the names of the Society or West Point in the marketing of products or personal or professional services.

  5. INFRACTIONS: If a Member believes that an infraction has occurred, that Member should communicate in writing to the President who, in consultation with the Board, will take appropriate action.
