This is a reminder that our monthly luncheon will be held at 11:30 Wednesday 8 June at the Saltgrass Steak House located at 10614 Research Blvd. Our speaker will be John Vanston ’50. He was commissioned in artillery then later branch transferred to ordnance. His last active duty assignments were with the 3rd AD maintenance BN and Test Group Director of an underground nuclear test at the Nevada Test Site. After retirement in 1970 he entered the Nuclear Engineering Program at UT and graduated in 1973 with a PhD and was asked to join the Nuclear Engineering faculty. In 1978 he left UT and founded Technical Futures, Inc.
The topic of his presentation will be his experience in participating in an atmospheric nuclear weapons test in 1955 and his assessment of the practicality of using tactical nuclear weapons on the battlefield.
