Distinguished Grad and Outstanding Citizen Awards PDF Print
Monday, 09 November 2009

The West Point Society of Atlanta is ready to accept nominations for its two annual awards - the Distinguished Graduate Award and the Outstanding Citizen Award.  WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Founders' Day is literally just around the corner, so we need nominations as quickly as possible.

WHAT WE NEED

We need the membership as a whole to nominate candidates for the "Distinguished Graduate" & "Outstanding Citizen" awards to be presented at the Founders' Day Dinner on 13 March 2010.

Trust me on this - it is easier for Society members to come up with nominees for the Distinguished Grad award than it is for the Outstanding Citizen.

So - put on your "Critical Thinking " caps & send us some names!!! You know who is out there - the selection committee does not. The criteria is set out on our website for each award.  To read the criteria, go to the section below labeled "LINKS"

HOW WE DO IT

We will have a two step process for the selection. Send us your nominees' names and an extremely short sketch explaining why they should be selected.

We have set out a format for you to follow to help your creative juices to flow through your penny pencils onto paper (Or through your flying fingers into your keyboard).  See the section below labeled "Links"

The selection committee will quickly scan the plethora of nominations submitted and select a short list for further elaboration and the final selection process. The members making nominations on the short list will be notified and assistance offered to put the nominations in final form.

HOW TO SUBMIT

The E-Mail address for submission will be sent out next week, after the chairman of the Selection Committee (SelCom) in named by the BOG.

If you have immediate questions, call Don Reinhard at Cell number (404) 229-9896.  Until the SelCom is functional, he is doing the grunt work to get you thinking and the process started.

A significant amount of the selection process is performed electronically, so we will need to be able to pass documents via e-mail-preferably as .doc attachments.

SELECTION COMMITTEE

The Selection committee will consist of 7 members, 5 being a quorum. All but the chairman will NOT be members of the Board of Governors. The BOG will name the committee at their meeting on 19 Nov.

Final selection of the awardees will take place in a face-to-face meeting in January. (The room will not be filled w/ smoke; all participants will wear black parkas, hoods up - black ski masks optional.)

DEADLINES

Nomination submission: Fri, 11 Dec 2009.
Short list completed: Fri, 18 December 2009
Elaborated Nomination Submission: Fri, 15 Jan 2010
Selection Complete; BOG notified:  Thurs, 11 Feb 2010

LINKS

At this point, keep nominations short & to the point - pithy, no bloviating - that's for the elaborated form for those selected for the short list.

Below is a list of links to the WPSA website giving details for the awards and information to help you prepare a nomination.

Thanks and good writing!  Your input makes the awards possible.  You know who is out there and deserving recognition.  It is not easy to prepare a nomination - but the results are rewarding for all concerned.

Sincerely,

T. Ulrich Brechbuhl
President, Board of Governors
West Point Society of Atlanta
