Monthly Luncheon Print

Well, It's now Jan 9, 2009. Time to really get serious about the luncheon. Jan Luncheon. 1130 hrs, Fri, 16 Jan at the Shrine complex on Ponce de Leon.

Our speaker for the Luncheon will be Mike Newton, USMA '84.

Mike served as a consultant to the Iraq High Tribunal (IHT) that tried Saddam Hussein. He subsequently wrote a book (Enemy of the State) on his experience. He now teaches law at Vanderbilt University.

Mike co-wrote the book along with another law professor named Michael Scharf (Case Western Reserve). The book details all that went into setting up the procedures, evaluating pertinent law - especially in a historical context with Nuremburg and The Hague, and summarizing what actually occurred in the courtroom. Their account is refreshingly candorous and does not necessarily paint a picture of just what went right. It tells of what happened and offers some ideas of how to make future trials better, fairer, and more internationally accepted.

This should be an interesting talk - bring all your friends. They get the same low price you get - that is if you have paid your dues! If you have not paid them, you my rest assured that I will shake you down for them.
