Our speaker, Russell S. Bonds, will talk about trains. More specifically, the Chattanooga Choo Choo from Big Shanty in 1862 (Marietta in 2008.). To be a bit more precise, the chase took place on April 12, 1862, almost exactly 146 years ago. Y'all remember the great Disney potboiler "The Great Locomotive Chase," don't you? Well, he will recount that escapade in a slightly more academic approach w/o Fess Parker w/ a phony Suthen Ayicksent. Steven Russell has heard him & promises that when he finishes, you'll wipe the sweat from your brow from shoveling coal into the boiler (or is it wood chunked into the boiler?). There is more drama & heroism in this epic struggle between two legitimate American heroes and their cohorts than you can find in all of Hollywood in a year. Russ has written a book about the event, and spends a fair amount of time speaking to varied groups about it. Naturally, he will have copies to sell.
