Theme: “WHERE EAGLES DARE!”

Saturday, November 6, 2004, 7:30 pm, Cathedral at Chapel Hill

You are invited to hear a patriotic, inspirational musical fete performed by a unique 300-member chorus and orchestra of musically gifted doctors, nurses, scientists, and other healthcare professionals who work for the Department of Veterans Affairs and other healthcare institutions.  


 


The program features Actor James McEachin, Radio DJ James (MOBY) Carney and Concert Pianist Clariece Paulk, with the award-winning chorale and symphony orchestra of the VA-National Medical Musical Group (VA-NMMG), directed by its founder, Victor S. Wahby, MD.  Many area chorales and orchestras participate. It will be taped for national broadcast. Bishop Earl Paulk presides.  Cohosts: Chip Carter and the Honorable Leo Mackay, Jr., chief operations officer for Georgia-based ACS State Healthcare Solutions and former Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.  


 


VA-National Medical Musical Group (VA-NMMG), a non-profit organization, is the largest medical musical group in America.  The Group has performed at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and Constitution Hall, as well as for the U.S. Congress, the United Nations, the White House and the Vatican.  VA-NMMG's mission is to perform music with a message of inspiration, healing, and national unity.


 


The musical smorgasbord includes: Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, American Eagle Song, Armed Forces Medley, Battle Hymn Of The Republic, Bring Him Home from Les Miserables, Bugler’s Dream (Arnaud), Entrance Of The Gladiators (Fucik), Flower Duet From Lakme (Delibes), The God Who Gave Us Life (Thompson), Grand Old Flag, Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God, On Eagles Wings, Soldiers Chorus From Faust (Gounod), Veterans’ Hymn.  The audience joins in a signature sing-along of Sousa’s Stars and Stripes.  The program includes a reenactment of the Iwo Jima flag raising and a “Veterans Moment” honoring America’s veterans and active military.  The Atlanta Rolling Thunder performs a Vacant Chair dramatization in honor of our fallen heroes, POWs, and MIAs.
