Subject: WP-ORG: Service
From: Megan Hostler <email@example.com>
Bottom Line Up Front: It's that time of year again - the twice annual justification for the existence of WP-ORG through your continued support. Please donate to FD42: http://www.west-point.org/donate/
WP-ORG is, at it's very core, the ultimate service organization. At it's inception, it was the only internet based communication tool bringing grads together, and allowing parents a peek inside the window of life for the cadets.
While many other social media platforms have sprung up in the past two decades, WP-ORG remains alone in the standard of service it has established for itself.
People who care about West Point volunteer their time to moderate Class forums. Real people work to set up the credit card sites so Class reunions can run efficiently, so Society and Parent Club events can occur seamlessly, so the cadets can purchase tickets to take the bus to the airports for leave / pass.
Real people answer the call - be it a technical issue to the solved, or, as is often the case with me, a reminder of where I can find something within the system.
WP-ORG has an army of volunteers, but only three employees - and one of those is part time. It takes people to man those phones, keep the servers humming, create credit card sites for reunions, Class/Society/Club functions, process the firearms licenses, etc, etc., etc. - and it's done all so efficiently with the 2.5 employees of WP-ORG - Jack Price, a '64 grad who can, at time, be cantankerous, perhaps only for show, as there's usually with a grin on his face and a twinkle in his eye - and oh, the stories he can tell of the mischievous things he's done; Megan Klein, his daughter, the magician who keeps the wheels of WP-ORG humming smoothly, who builds the numerous websites and credit card sites, feeds the ornery servers, kicking them into submission when needed and cajoling them into remaining operational; and Dian Welle, the "voice" of WP-ORG, the person behind the phone or the computer question line, who has a "can do / I can fix that" attitude and resolves issues quickly and efficiently, or finds out who can.
WP-ORG - real people doing an amazing job serving the West Point community and filling the needed niche of safe, secure communication.
