Over the last few weeks, you have received an email (once a week) from
one of West-Point.Org's Advisors - telling you why this internet
community is important to them - and asking you to help support
West-Point.Org for the next six months. On the bottom of each and every
forum posting is a recap - a link showing you the budgetary needs to
keep the various forums operational for the next six months, a link to
who (in general terms) has donated and a link providing information as
to how you can donate, should you choose to do so.

In past years, the moderators were also required to write to their
constituencies. I, as an Advisor and a Moderator, lobbied long and hard
to let our moderators off the hook, as we all hate begging for money,
and frankly, we're interested only in helping you through the roller
coaster ride that *is* West Point. As an Advisor, I realized that I
would still be "on the hook" to write, but I certainly could lobby that
Pam and Cheryl not have to - and was successful in that effort

This is *not* my official week to write to the entire West-Point.Org
membership - and frankly, I'm hoping that I don't have to - that the
budgetary needs will be met within the next ten days

We all know times are tough - we also know that you *do* value this
forum. We're not interested in how much anyone gives, but it *is* nice
to see that parents donate - $5.00 goes a long, long way - and frankly,
if every parent donated $5.00, we'd be done. As a parent, I know that I
received much more value from West-Point.Org than my husband did as a
grad, but year after year, it's the grads who keep West-Point.Org
running - and I'm thankful for that.

At this point, parent participation in the fund drive is at an all time
low and there are noises that the moderators will be required to going
back to weekly messages, as it's felt that many parents don't really
equate the forums to West-Point.Org

Stats for those who are interested:
Parents of the Class of 2012 - 21
Parents of the Class of 2013 - 23
Parents of the Class of 2014 - 26

If you are one of these parents who have donated to the fund drive ...
thank you. If not, please know that you are not under any obligation
whatsoever to contribute ... but knowing that people *do* value the
services provided through the forums *is* important. No contribution is
too small. $1.00, $5.00 ...it's the numbers participating that mean
something ... not the amounts (well, our treasurer would not agree, but
then again, I'm not speaking for / on behalf of him).

As always, thanks for your support
Megan

At this point, parent participation in the fund drive is at an all time
low, and I personally believe it's because you really don't know *who*
West-Point.Org is, and if we're the same as the West Point Association
of Graduates (who is also asking you for money - but much more ;-) )

*What* is West-Point.Org? It's a community of volunteers who work to
help keep grads connected to each other ... and parents connected to
each other and to West Point. West-Point.Org is the organization that
hosts Plebe Net (and all the other parent-oriented forums from
Prospective-Net to WPP-Grad Net) ... a forum that I believe many of you
have found valuable over the past few months, and hopefully will
continue to find valuable. We'll be here to help - as long as
West-Point.Org continues to exist.

So ...if you are one of the 23 Plebe parents who have donated to the
fund drive ... thank you. If not, please know that you are not under
any obligation whatsoever to contribute ... but knowing that people *do*
value the services provided through the forums *is* important. No
contribution is too small. $1.00, $5.00 ...it's the numbers

Several members have written to me off-line, asking how they can donate
to West-Point.Org.

While I had mentioned in my note that the "how tos" are included at the
bottom of each forum posting, I purposely didn't include the link in my
message, as I was feeling rather "pushy" as it was. However, having
been "yelled at" by several, here's the link if you wish to donate:

Donate to FD30: http://www.west-point.org/donate/

Remember, West-Point.Org (who hosts the forums for parents) is different
from The West Point Association of Graduates. West-Point.Org (us) has a
semi-annual fund drive to remain operational - and are asking for
$98,590 to remain operational for the next six months. The budget is
available at http://www.west-point.org/budget/ and as you can see, our
Treasurer pares things very closely. The West Point Association of
Graduates is running a very large fundraising campaign, and will be
(have been?) in contact with you for a quarterly donation over the next
two years - in an amount much higher than the comment that I made
regarding no donation being too small ...

I'm running out the door, but will explain the difference between WP-ORG
and WPAOG and the different needs upon my return ... but wanted to
comply with the many requests for the link :-)

As always, thanks for your concern / support
Megan
