Help for Wounded in Landstuhl

From Mo and Ann in Landstuhl

We are willing to be "mom and dad on the ground" when wounded pass through our hospital on their way home. Due to privacy concerns we need the following in hand to visit any of the Soldiers:

1. Full name, rank, date of birth and at least the last four digits of their social security number. Knowing their unit is helpful but not necessary.
2. A written request to visit the wounded Soldier, e.g. "I request Ann or Mo Shields to visit my son/daughter/etc LT John Q. Smith, DOB 1Feb88, SSN XXX-XX-1234 at Landstuhl".

Even though I'm a nurse at the hospital, for privacy reasons I can't drop in and visit without a formal request from the family and the consent of the Soldier himself (or herself). This is as it should be and protects them from unwanted visitors during a vulnerable time.

As mentioned in the past, parents of deploying Soldiers really need to have a valid passport. It's one less thing to worry about if you get the dreaded call.

We've been blessed to be on both the giving and receiving end of this wonderful group, and remain ready to help at any time
