C.F.T. USMA 2007 CAMP BUCKNER-JUNE 2004

YES! You can visit Camp Buckner to see your Yuk on Sundays unless they are doing a detail or something military.  On July 4, 2004 YOUR Cadet can leave the Camp and travel anywhere within the proverbial 75 mile radius.  This is what I have been told.  Check with YOUR Cadet for the absolute truth.  There is a concert and fireworks show at Trophy Point that evening.  As you can see from the views below, Camp Buckner is a reasonably well 'manicured' area and looks great for a Sunday trip/picnic.  You can  check out a canoe for a trip on Lake Buckner or whatever that is called.  However, progress has not entirely reached Camp B.  There is no ATM machine.

Camp Buckner was originally designed as an internment camp for POW's in WW II.  Also, this is bear country and I don't mean the Chicago type!  The cadets are advised to leave Yogi, Boo Boo, Smokey and the rest of that species ALONE.  They are not to unload any live rounds.  Just leave the area.  Advice to both Cadets and bears.

This is NOT official, but half the C.F.T. Regiment will be bussed to Ft. Knox in the mid-July time frame for M1 Tank training.  Again, check with YOUR Cadet for the exact time and date.  The other half goes after Group 1.

The principal pastime I observed at Buckner on Sunday 21 June 04 was watching fish from the shore or on the bridge.

NOTE: If you have pictures from Buckner or elsewhere of YOUR Cadets, send them to me together with supporting text describing what the picture(s) depict for posting on this page or elsewhere on the Western PA WPPC site.

A bridge too far?

Some cadets think of or dream that the other side of the lake at Buckner is actually Canada, where I would add the drinking age is 19!

A view up the road towards the mess hall.  Which, is on cement pylons over the water, of what I call, Lake Buckner.

In keeping with the West Point tradition, everything at Buckner is either up or down a Hill!

A shot of the Main beach (and by the way the only one I saw) at Buckner with the crew team preparing to invade.  An extra credit amphibious assault class exercise.
