November 18th minutes at Hidden Lake Winery

The November meeting of the West Point Parents Club of St. Louis was called to order by President Patrick Flachs at 11:50 a.m.  The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Mary Ann Wiley offered a prayer for cadets, soldiers and family members worldwide.

1.             A general welcome was given by Patrick Flachs with an introduction of the Officers in attendance: President: Patrick Flachs, Vice President: Frank Janoski (absent), Treasurer: Karen Hilkenkamp, Secretary: Mary Ann Wiley, Special Projects: Susan Smith

2.             A break was given so all in attendance could enjoy brunch.  This gave everyone an opportunity to talk and share updates about their Cadets and Graduates.

3.             Membership renewals and contacts were discussed.  Karen Hilkenkamp will head-up calls to members regarding membership and dues. The current number of families in the club is 109.

4.             Patrick Flachs discussed the coordination of plans for Graduation Week 2008.  He gave information regarding the rental of a tent and caterers. Please call or email Pat if you are interested in this information. Patrick.Flachs@husch.com or 314-480-1524.

5.             February 10th Meeting at Scott Air Base was mentioned with Mr. Russ Ellis volunteering to sponsor us at the Base. Mary Ann Wiley and Russ will work out the details for the meeting.

6.             Mary Larson gave an update on the All Academies Ball, which will be held on December 29th at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Clayton. We will have a live band “Trilogy”.  Frank Janoski will be the MC with Major Philip J. Dacunto as our guest speaker. It is a grand event for you and your family members. We are the sponsors this year and would love a great turnout. Please consider this a “must go to” event for you and your Cadet/Graduate.  Remember your Cadet does not pay for their dinner.  Cadets are guests of the parents club.  Cadets wear full dress gray for the Ball. This is a great opportunity for those who have not had the opportunity to go to West Point and experience a military event. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Ball.  Patrick Flachs invited the Tuskegee Airmen as guests to the Ball.

7.             Class of 2011 parents were asked for a critique of R-Day, A-Day and PPW.  If you have any feedback for the June meeting or other events please send an email to Patrick with your input. We are always looking for ways to help the parents, grandparents and family members of the club.

8.             A discussion took place regarding reorganization of the STL WPPC (see below).

9.             The meeting was adjourned.

WPPC Reorganization

A proposal was given out in a hard copy form to everyone at the meeting. A motion was made and seconded for the WPPC Reorganization. Patrick then gave a detailed explanation regarding the changes.  As we have grown, there are many needed hands to help in the various activities of the club.  Recommendations regarding structure were made by members of the executive board, current and past officers, and other members of the WPPC.  These were assembled and brought to the meeting. A vote was taken and passed for the new Club Officer Positions and responsibilities. At the February meeting, which is our by-laws meeting, a complete reorganization will be addressed. Positions are as follows: President , President Elect, Vice President, Corresponding Secretary, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Committee, Activities Committee, Fundraising Committee, Webmaster, Club Historian

The next meeting is at Scott Air Force Base on February 10, 2008 at 11:00 am. You must send in your reservations to Karen Hilkenkamp for this meeting. We are required to send you a base pass in order to get in!
