February 12 Minutes at Scott Air Force Base

The February meeting of the West Point Parents Club of St. Louis was called to order by President Mike Collins at 10:30 a.m.

  1. Our club has 70 bracelets left; they sell easily at church, school, etc. functions. Please call Mike Collins to order them.
  2. Our club approved a donation of $87.20 to Joan Sutter for shipments of boodle to US Soldiers in Iraq.
  3. Our club sent 8 boxes or 100 lbs of boodle to troops in Iraq and Germany. We paid for the Freight Charges or SAM mail. Thanks to Marge McCullough for her efforts.
  4. Thanks to Major Melody Hoff for her efforts in helping us hold our meeting at Scott Air Force base. Our club approved sending a gift certificate as appreciation. Thanks to Mike & Kathy Hughes for overseeing this project.
  5. Three past presidents were recognized – Joan Edleson (1984), Chip & Sue Zdazinsky (2003) and John & Judy Liesen (2005)
  6. Treasurer’s Report: We have a balance as of February, 2006 of $3,678.64

 

All Academy Ball

The All Academy Ball was held on Friday, December 23 at the Clayton, MO Crowne Plaza hotel. Everyone had a great time and the Crowne gave us great service.

Thanks to Sarah Collins and Mary Larson for their help in making this a success. This year Air Force will be the sponsor.

 

Membership Committee

The membership committee has been formed and is chaired by Nancy Cook; Leann Roehm and John Hilkenkamp will assist her. Their priorities will be to retain existing members and to encourage new families to join especially class of 2009 and 2010 parents.

Motions were made and approved the following list of candidates for the next year:

Founders Day – Missouri Athletic Club

On Sunday March 12, come and help us celebrate West Point’s 204th birthday at the Missouri Athletic Club with a brunch from 11:00 am to  Noon.  Brigadier General Patrick Finnegan, Dean of the Academic Board will be the main speaker. Graduates, Cadets, cadets with appointments, prospective candidates (sophomores, juniors & seniors) and all are welcome to attend. Cost of the luncheon will be $35/person.

April 23, 2006 Meeting – Concordia Lutheran Church

Our next meeting will be at Concordia Church at Kirkwood Rd. and Woodbine.

It is a “bring a dish to pass” luncheon; the club will supply the meat (chicken).

We will still need reservations so that enough meat can be ordered. You may pay at the meeting.

 

The meeting will start at 11:00 am.

 

Reservations are due by April 16, 2065.

June 11, 2006 Meeting – Hale & Farewell – Crowne Plaza

Our next meeting will be at the Crowne Plaza in Clayton, MO starting at 12:00 pm for social hour.

This meeting is our chance to congratulate our 9 graduates and welcome the 15 to 20 new 2010 cadets from the St Louis Area.

 

OSOT - Wheels for Warriors (WFW)

These Vets who have been seriously injured and have returned to the USA still need your donations. As Part of OSOT (Operation Support our Troops) WFW helps these men & women obtain specially configured vehicles so they can get around. OSOT – Landsthul Hospital

Mike Edleson ’79 has retired from the US Army Reserves and is a manager for Morgan Stanley. Mike is the son of Joan Edleson

 

Brenda Edleson ’84 works for a government consulting company. Brenda is the daughter of Joan Edleson

 

Ltc Chris Ballard ’88 is Chief of Training for Coalition Forces in Kuwait; his primary mission is to show these forces how to detect IED and mines. Chris is the son of Lawrence & Marilyn Ballard.

 

Capt Travis Jadlot ’99 is a member of the 101st Airborne at Ft Campbell and works in IED/mine detection.  Travis is the son of Steve & Kathy Jadlot       

 

Capt James O’Boyle ’99 has returned to Ft Lewis WA for the 3rd time. James is the son of Michael & Sharon O'Boyle.

 

1st Lt Adrian Zdazinsky ’02 has returned from Iraq in December. Adrian is the son of Chip & Peggy Zdazinsky.

 

2nd Lt Steve Hemmann ’03 has completed Infantry OBC where he made the Commandant’s list. He will take Airborne and Bradley Leadership Training while he is waiting for Ranger School training in April. Steve is the son of Dave & Ruth Hemmann.

 

1st Lt Will Eberle ’04 is a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. Will is the son of Phillip & Michiko Eberle.

 

1st Lt Robert McCullough ’04 has completed one year of duty in Korea with the 2nd ID; he will now be a FSO (Fire Support Officer) with the 25th ID 3rd BCT, 2-27 Infantry. Robert is the son of Mike & Marge McCullough.

 

2nd Lt Justin Liesen ’05 has completed Engineers OBC and is scheduled for Sapper School in April. He is a member of the 1st Stryker BCT at Ft Lewis. Justin is the son of John & Judy Liesen.

 

Tirzah Eskew ’06 has made the Dean’s list and was inducted into the West Point Engineering Society. She is also going to Paris for spring break. Tirzah is the daughter of Gay Eskew.

 

Mike Collins ’06 has been accepted into the Navy Seal program and is waiting for further information. Mike is the son of Mike & Sarah Collins.

 

Joe Sanfilippo ’06 made the dean’s list and will help organize the New York State Special Olympics held at West Point. Joe is the son of Joe & Pam Sanfilippo.

 

Robert Vietor ’06 has been accepted to medical school at USUHS (Uniform Service University of Health Sciences) in Washington DC. USHS is attached to Walter Reed Medical Center (http://www.usuhs.mil/). Robert is the son of Robert & Mary Vietor.

 

Jacob Cook ’07 has returned from a semester of training at the Spanish Military Academy. He now has to take 21 hours to keep up with the rest of his classmates. He also will be XO at Buckner this summer or 2nd in command. Jacob is the son of Greg & Nancy Cook.

 

Adam Hilkenkamp ’07 is looking forward to getting his cow loan and ring weekend. Adam is the son of John & John & Karen Hilkenkamp.

 

Mike Miller ’07 is a computer science major and hopes his grades are good enough to get Ft Carson, CO as his Post selection. Mike is the son of Marcus & Janalyn Miller.

 

Matt Roehm ’07 recently visited Thailand. Matt is the son of Charles and Leann Roehm.

 

Trevor Saunders ’07 made the Dean’s List and is a member of the Combat Weapons Team. Trevor is the son of Jimmie & Paula Saunders.

 

Sean Flachs '08 is a member of the Army Rugby Team No 1 team in the NCAA; Sean will also train in New Zealand this summer. Sean is the son of Patrick & Lorraine Flachs.

 

John Hughes '08 will visit the Mexico Military Academy during spring break and is trying out for Sapper School. John is the son of Mike & Kathy Hughes.

 

Amelia Janoski ‘09 is a member of the Army women's soccer team (12-6-1) which made it to the championship game of the Patriot League tournament. She played every game at wing midfielder; she also "tabbed" the Indoor Obstacle Course. (IOCT) and was named on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Amelia is the daughter of Frank & Debra Janoski
