Dear West Point friends,
Thank you for taking the time to disseminate this information to your West Point parent club members. The Houston club would love for your parents to join us in hosting the Texas Tamale Tailgate scheduled for September 29, 2007, at Eisenhower Hall after the Army-Temple football game. This is an annual event that has been traditionally sponsored by the Houston parent club, but we would like to open it up to having all of our Texas parents host. We carry up Texas barbecue, tamales, rice and beans, and 100 dozen cookies from home, and serve our Texas cadets and any friends they bring (as well as any who wander upon us!). Last year we served 600 cadets!
This year we are also shipping up 800 Blue Bell ice cream cups (donated by Blue Bell) and 20 cases of Shiner Bock beer to serve. (The free beer always manages to attract a few!)
We need your help in 2 ways. First, please come if you can. Due to the size of the event, we are moving it to Ike Hall this year because we need some catering help to manage the heating and serving of food (can no longer have a back yard party- too big, not enough kitchen space, clean-up takes hours, need more bathrooms). We want our Texas parents to serve as hosts- mingle, talk to kids, serve the food, help with clean up etc. Between Dallas and Houston parent clubs we have around 25 -30 parents going so far. Also, we need financial support. The Houston club has traditionally sponsored the event (usually $8000, the other clubs donating a total of about $1500). We are asking that the parent clubs and/or any individuals please help donate to the event. If each parent donated $40 or $50 to cover their cadet and a friend or two we would be able to cover the event without much difficulty. The move to Ike Hall has increased the cost of the event to $12,000 (which would include a DJ for Texas music ambiance). If you can attend, please let me know so I can somewhat keep track of who will be there (we will need bartenders to help with soft drinks and kegs), servers, “schmoozers”, moms to sit with kids who come alone (and there are always scared plebes who come alone).
