West Point Family Picnic – New Cadet Send-Off

Dear West Point Families,
We are having a picnic send-off for the new cadet candidates before they head off to Cadet Basic Training. Please join us!

Sunday, June 24, 11:30 am – 2:00 pm
End of Oregon Trail Shelter
1726 Washington St.
Oregon City, OR 97045

Bring any dish you want to share. We will have a main dish and beverages.
If any of your current cadets are available to join us, that would be great. The candidates are encouraged so much by being able to talk to current cadets.

The 50-year affiliate will also be there to congratulate and inspire the new class. What a wonderful occasion to gather as a Long Gray family!

Please respond to  Steve Roth sroth7@frontier.com so we know to expect you, or send regrets if you can’t make it. Also, new 2022 cadets, please share this information with your parents as we may not yet have their email addresses, and therefore, they were not included in this announcement.

For your future planning, our next meeting will be September 8 at the TVF&R building in Wilsonville at 8445 SW Elligsen Rd. We will hear about A-Day and Ring Weekend and prepare boodle boxes to send to our cadets. Save the date!

Looking forward to spending time with cadets and families.

Next Meeting, November 4, 2017

GoogleMaps_FireStationWow, the summer has flown by and Fall has finally arrived.

Our next meeting is November 4, 2017 at Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, 8445 SW Elligsen Rd, Wilsonville, 11am Potluck (Board meeting at 10 am). We have invited Mike Mihalik, Dad of a 2014 Grad, to talk about some of the financial and logistical decisions our cadets have to make after West Point, like “Should I get the Cow Loan and how much?” and “Should I ship my car to Germany or buy one there?”

Branch Night will also be soon, so Mike will be able to offer a few words about that, too.

At our January meeting (exact date to be determined), we have invited Rick Goodell, USMA Class of 1968. Rick is the 50-year Affiliate for the Class of 2018, and Rick has many good stories to share. I’ll provide Rick’s bio as we get closer to January.

The November meeting is also when we do elections to the board for the following year. We need to fill the board positions for Vice President and Secretary. Steve Roth has nominated himself as Secretary. Thanks, Steve! And, we are still looking to fill the Vice President slot as Karen Irving will move in as president as John and I step down. This is a fairly minimal commitment that makes a big difference to our West Point experience. Thanks for considering this.

John and I will miss hearing your stories at this meeting as we will be in Colorado Springs watching Women’s Army Rugby beat Air Force. Go Army!!
