Change in BOODLE policy / procedure

Important Notice!!! For roughly the past two years our boodle shipping costs were donated by various trucking companies. We no longer have their resources and had to pay $250.00 for our August 2005 Boodle shipment to West Point. The executive board met prior to the October club meeting to discuss possible options to make our boodle program self-sustaining and presented those options at the general meeting.

After much discussion and a formal vote, it was decided that beginning with our January 2006 boodle shipment, the club will provide individual US Post Office Flat Rate boxes (11" x 8 1/2" x "9" as of January 8th shipping costs $8.10) to be packed at our meeting. Parents in attendance will then take their cadet's box home and pay to ship it to their son or daughter. If a parent is not in attendance, they will need to send a check for at least $15.00 to our treasurers prior to the meeting to cover boodle and shipping costs.

We do not want to see any of our cadets excluded from this wonderful program but we also need the support of the majority of our membership in order for this activity to continue. We encourage your input; if anyone has a question or concern, please do not hesitate to call or email.

PRESIDENTS' CORNER - 10/24/06

Hello WPPC Members:

I am sitting at home on this beautiful fall day and was thinking about how full the last six months have been.

On May 27, we celebrated the graduation of eight cadets and then we were quickly welcoming five New Candidates, Class of 2010, and their families into our club. Beast and CFT were conquered and then A-Day and the Affirmation Oath Ceremony followed. The next day was welcome to the 2006-2007 academic year and the "Thayer Method"!!!!!

Todd and I, along with several of our Firstie families, traveled to West Point for Ring Weekend and we are happy to report that this weekend is every bit as special as Plebe Parent. The weather was perfect, when it needed to be, and the Class of 2007 was resplendent in their India Whites, the last time that uniform will be worn.

Now we are well into the football season and two big games are looming. Some of us will attend Army/Air Force and others Army/Navy. In any case, safe travels, dress warm and GO ARMY!!!!!!!

Warmly, Michelle

The Corps

an anthem written a century ago by West Point chaplain Bishop Herbert Simpson.

The long gray line of us stretches

Through the years of a century told,

And the last man feels to his marrow

The grip of your far-off hold.

Grip hands with us now, though we see not,

Grip hands with us, strengthen our hearts

As the long line stiffens and straightens

With the thrill that your presence imparts.

Grip hands—though it be from the shadows—

While we swear, as you did of yore,

Or living, or dying, to honor

The Corps, and the Corps, and the Corps!

The Pointer View

This weekly publication provides West Point news in a timely manner. It is an immensely useful resource for Cadet parents and other folks interested in keeping abreast of current happenings at West Point throughout the year. The Pointer View is published by the Public Affairs Office, U.S. Military Academy and printed and distributed by the Poughkeepsie Journal. It is published in the interest of the personnel at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point but is a valuable resource for other people interested in West Point (for example ... parents). Each week newsworthy articles from the current week are published online here. The Pointer View can also be obtained in its entirety by subscription. An online archive of past issues is available here.

West Point Related and ARMY Related NEWS are freely mixed into the presentations. Important visitors, key events, Army units interacting with West Point and Cadets, and historical articles are found within the issues.

[editor's note: My wife and I access these URLs frequently. This news is from an entirely different perspective than what you may receive from your Cadet. It often presents West Point in a more global nature.]
