1976 "Spirit of '76"

4/20 Letter from Major T. Jones informing Martha and Ruddy Rowan that our zip code area is "A" and that there are:
             16 Ohio cadets in the Class of '76                 9 Class of '77
               8 Class of '78                                           14 Class of '79
        Total: 47 NE Ohio West Point Cadets. Major Jones also gave suggestions re: an organizational meeting
        and explained that because of the Privacy Act, any activity regarding a parents club had to be initiated
        through the Public Affairs Office.

5/19 Letter to Major Jones from Martha and Ruddy Rowan informing him of informal meetings that have been taking
        place in Northeast Ohio. The Rowan's explained that Yvonne Glover, the mother of a cadet in the class of '76,
        had compiled a list of names and addresses of parents with cadets and had been meeting regularly to share
        concerns, questions and feelings about the West Point experience.

In the minutes of the meeting, it was noted that a newsletter pointed out that "Due to hard working MALOs and APs in Ohio, our state is setting admission records at West Point. Unconfirmed rumor has it that the Ohio Field Force plans to fill West Point with cadets from Ohio and then late one night replace all of the trees surrounding the Plain with chestnut trees. If their success continues for a few years, there may be no one left to object." 11/30  Contributed $100.00 to cadet activities.

8/89 Results of study "The West Point Study" conducted by West Point and the Cooperative Institutional
        Research Program of the American Council on Education released. This study started in July '86 (plebe year)
        and identified the cadets, stated data as to their secondary education, admissions statistics, and looked
        at the political preferences of the cadets.
