Routes to West Point

Directions to West Point from the 4 area airports: JFK, LaGuardia, Newark and Stewart

From the DC Metropolitan Area

To West Point via I-95, the New Jersey Turnpike & Palisades Pkwy

Go North on I-95 through Maryland and into Delaware
After you pass the rest area on the Delaware Turnpike, watch for signs for 295 North, Delaware Memorial Bridge. Bear Right for Bridge.
After crossing Delaware Memorial Bridge, follow signs for the New Jersey Turnpike, get ticket and continue north. (Gas in New Jersey is much more reasonable than in New York so fill up NJ)
Go to last exit (Exit 16, pay toll ($4.60) and follow the signs toward the Geo. Washington Bridge but stay in the local lanes as you will exit just before the GW bridge to get on the Palisades Parkway. (You will drive on surface streets on US 9W north for ~1mile to connect to the parkway.)
Go north on the Palisades Parkway to Bear Mountain Circle. Go 3/4 of the way around the circle to pick up 9W north towards Highland Falls and West Point. Go north on 9W ~ 2.7 miles and exit at State Route 218, Main St, Highland Falls. Follow the signs to the main gate.
There are several variations on the route through New Jersey. Please feel free to contact members of the parents club or the club's board members for guidance/preferences.

For those parents on the Virginia side of our Club's area, and for some of the folks in Western Maryland, we offer this alternate route instead of taking I-95. We live near Leesburg, and the I-95 routing was taking us 6 hours plus tolls plus frustration with traffic. We now avoid 95 by:
Taking Route 15 to near Harrisburg, PA;
Take 581 at Camp Hill just south of Harrisburg and continue on I-83 North;
pick up I-81 North for about 30 miles to I-78;
take Rt 78 East through Allentown and continue into NJ to pick up I-287 North.
Continue northbound onto I- 87 (NYS ThruWay). We use the Harriman exit (16) to Route 6.
Take Route 6 east to Palisades Parkway, north to Bear Mountain circle and continue as above.
The time from Leesburg is under 5 hours; about 300 miles; total of $1.00 tolls on Delaware River Bridge and Thruway combined. The only traffic we ever hit has been in Harrisburg during their brief rush hour. The scenery is nicer than that found along I-95.

Avoiding a Tollbooth on I-95: If you are a bit adventuresome and don't mind spending 5 minutes more on the road, you can avoid the Delaware Turnpike Toll ($2.00 each way) at the Maryland-Delaware border by following the directions written on the map.
