Firstie Recognition Brunch at Molly Malone’s

Club President Tom Dunne (Thomas ’11) called the meeting to order at 12:10 PM . After reciting the Pledge, Tom welcomed the parents and cadets to Molly Malone’s. Since our meeting was in the middle of T- week, only two Firsties were able to attend. Parents accepted the awards on behalf of their cadets, while Rosalie Dunne snapped photos. We have fourteen Long Island Firsties graduating in the class of 2008. The following were present: The family of Robert Caraccio- Robert is branching Engineering; Michael Hanna and his parents- Michael is branching Field Artillery; the parents of Michael McMahon- Michael is branching Medicine; Michael Merseburg, his parents and brother- Michael is branching Engineering; the parents of Michael Murphy- Michael is branching Infantry. Tom also presented gifts to Laurel McMahon, Linda Hanna and Pat Gill (Justin ’10), in acknowledgement of their hard work and dedication to the WPPC of LI. We will all miss Laurel and Linda, and hope to see them at the meetings next year.

All parents present gave an update on their cadets and summer plans.

Treasurer’s Report: Pat Gill stated that we still had to pay for the Howitzer Ad (yearbook), as well as donations and dues to several organization including Wounded Warriors, and AOG donations. We will begin accepting dues for the new year shortly.

President’s Report

Tom and Janet Donohue (Matthew ‘11) attended the President’s Meeting at West Point . A lot of information was presented to make our club more interactive with cadets presently attending the academy, future cadets and parents involved with our club, to support the mission of the Military Academy . Tom also spoke about how amazing Gerri Mulligan’s pack-out was. He informed us that Ellen Perry (Chris ’11) has been working on updating the club website. There are several families who have volunteered to attend R-Day representing our club. They include the Tom and Rosalie Dunne, Ellen Perry, Joanne Connolly (Gerard ’11), and George Proios(Paul ’09).

Summer meeting/picnic: the date seems to be Saturday August 9 th. Tom and Rosalie Dunne have graciously offered their home. There will be a rain date.

Tailgate Party: Saturday, October 11 is the tentative Date. Tom reminded club members to request parking for football games at Buffalo Soldier Field.

Founder’s Day: We need to choose a date as soon as possible for the WPPC of LI Second Annual Founder’s Day Celebration. Joanne Connolly needs to know a date for Russo’s ASAP.

Tom discussed football. He stated that those interested must purchase their tickets now. He also discussed the block of hotel rooms that the Club has reserved for Army/Navy in Philadelphia . The Holiday Inn is the better location, just a walk from the stadium.

Barbara Chesaniuk (Ross ’11) gave an update on the call list. Three members stepped up to be lead callers: Pat Gill (‘10); Joanne Connolly (’11); George Proios (Paul ’09).

June 13, 7-11PM : New Cadet Welcome Dinner at Molly Malone’s: As far as Tom knows there are fifteen New Cadets from the Long Island area. Eight are coming from the Prep School. Tom urged all members to reach out to encourage new members to join the Club. Dinner is $30 pp; new cadets and cadets are guests of the club and need not be in uniform.

The afternoon ended with Second Lieutenant Michael Hanna and Second Lieutenant Michael Merseburg cutting the cake emblazoned with the Class of 2008 Crest. All those present had a great time: excellent company, wonderful food and a beautiful day on the water!

Respectfully submitted,

Barbara Chesaniuk
