West Point Parents' Club

of Greater Kansas City

WPPCGKC:  23 September 2005

Jeannene Rider – Secretary not present at meeting.  Minutes recorded by Mary Long.

A tailgate party was held at Carl and Mary Long’s house for the Army vs. Iowa State football game.  Business part of the meeting was held during half time of the game.

President – Mary Long

Members were welcomed and thanked for coming and bringing the great food.  Everyone was reminded about the web site. This is a good place to go for club information such as: the club calendar, to check on up-coming events, photos, etc.   Credit was given to both web master, Cathy Barnes, and web master in training, Carol Bazemore, for the terrific job they are doing with the site.

Club roster was passed around and parents were asked to review, make corrections and additions as needed.  Jeannene will have the new roster ready soon.  These will be e-mailed to club members.

Treasurer’s Report – Chuck King (reported by Mary Long)

-         Balance of $1,823.68

-         The increase in dues brings us more in line with what the other clubs across the country are asking.  Since we have decided not to actively fund raise on a regular basis, we need to be able to meet our expenses.  Some of the past expenses have been the welcoming picnic, parent handbook, afghans for the Firstie parents.  This year we also had the Howitzer ad and the Frostbite Regatta.

All Academy Ball

A meeting was held on September 18, 2005 with the Longs and the McCanns, joined by presidents and reps from the Air Force and Navy Parents’ Clubs.  All are on line to help again.  Due to “ball burn-out” in our club, we will begin a rotating of the hosting responsibilities.  Air Force will host next year.

John McCann spoke about the silent auction part of the ball.  The three clubs will work together on this.  The host club (West Point this year) will receive 100% of our own club’s profits and 50% of the other clubs’ profits.  This is a good way to keep the clubs involved and to also “fatten” up the offers.

Susan McCann spoke about the ball in general.  With this being our last year to host for awhile, we want to go out on top.  A plea was put out for help from our members.  A sign up sheet to help with the ball was passed around.  Longs will be in charge of corporate sponsorship and the cadet gifts.
