WPPCGKC:  5 JUNE 2005

Jeannene Rider – Secretary

A formal meeting was not held and was replaced by the annual Welcoming Picnic for the incoming new cadets.  The picnic was held at the Leawood City Park, Leawood, KS from 1:00 – 4:00pm.

President – Mary Long

A West Point welcome was given to the USMA class of ’09, their parents and guests.  The activities and purpose of the parents club were discussed.  Membership forms were completed for both new and incoming members.  The $30/family club dues and the picnic fee of $5.00/person were collected.  The cadets were not charged for the picnic.

Ken Searcy –West Point Society

Ken is the president of the Kansas City West Point Society.  The society donated $200.00       for the picnic.  In previous years, separate gatherings were held in the summer to welcome the incoming cadets.  However, it was decided to combine these events to make it easier for the new cadets and the current cadets that attend.  Ken talked about the Society and life as a West Point cadet.   Suggestions were given both to the new cadets and their parents as to how to “survive” Beast.

West Point Cadets

The current cadets that attended the picnic spoke of their upcoming summer duties.  They also gave insight and helpful hints to the new cadets as to what to expect during Beast and the upcoming Academic Year.

All Academy Ball

John and Susan McCann are the chairmen for the All Academy Ball.  This dinner/dance is an annual event that will be held this year on Dec. 30th at the Marriott Hotel on the Country Club Plaza.  Cadets and Midshipmen from all service academies are invited.  The McCann's are in need of several volunteers.  This has been a very successful and fun event for several years.  Please consider volunteering your time/talent and contact the McCann's by phone 816-781-2045 or email:  mothermccann@prodigy.net.

Collections

A total of $515.00 (does not include the donation from the WP Society) was collected and mailed to Treasurer, Chuck King on 6/23/05.
