Welcome West Point Parents!

WPP-NET stands for "West Point Parents Net". This is the net used by our parent moderators to pass "hard news" information to all parents who have an e-mail address in the west-point.org system.  WPP-NET is a closed net and the only person who can post messages to this net is the wpp-net moderator. This net operates on a "push" system. We push the information out to you unsolicited as we learn of news from West Point.

The WPP-NET website is intended to be the portal for all West Point parents (as your Internet browser home page if you wish), where you can find everything you need in one easy location.  If you don't find something you need, be sure to let me know, and our Webmaster will include it if at all possible.

CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE TO WPP-NET
(if you are a member of plebe-net or parent-forum, you are already on WPP-NET)

Army Decides an N.F.L. Hopeful Cannot Have It All
Published: July 29, 2008

WASHINGTON — Caleb Campbell, a member of West Point’s class of 2008 and a seventh-round draft pick of the Detroit Lions, woke up one day last week expecting to sign a $295,000 contract that afternoon. He was anticipating the team’s season opener in September against the Atlanta Falcons.

Campbell still expects to be on the sideline this September, but it will not be as an N.F.L. player. Instead, he has been ordered to return to West Point as a second lieutenant assigned to assistant coaching duties for Army.

Attention Parent Club Board, Officers, and Webmasters

West Point has started cracking down on the use of trademarked images, sending threatening cease and desist letters to parent clubs across the country, even for websites that clearly support West Point, Cadets, and/or our deceased graduates.   The USMA trademark images, words, and colors can be found by clicking here .   Permission must be obtained for use of the images.  The guidelines for obtaining permission can be found by clicking on this link .   OSJA is also requiring that all parent club sites include this disclaimer:  “DISCLAIMER: This organization is privately owned and operated. This private organization is not endorsed by the United States Military Academy, United States Army, or Department of Defense.”

He won the Sullivan Award as the nation's best amateur athlete in 1947. He is at home in South Dade holding the football they sent him.

West Point Gets Help Preparing For Cadets
Volunteers participate in drills — and have instructors bark at them

The senior spent hours with the civilian volunteers polishing his form for reception day, or "R-Day," for the Class of 2012. At mock R-Day on June 27, he practiced the finer points of leaning close to mock plebes and pouncing on people who smirked.

"THIS IS FUNNY?" Davies screamed at one volunteer. "YOU ARE WASTING MY TIME!"

Superintendent Wants Revision To Alma Mater and "The Corps"
The U.S. Military Academy's superintendent wants to revise the lyrics to the alma mater and "The Corps," to make the tunes "gender neutral." Superintendent Franklin Hagenbeck presented his idea, on this Power Point slide, to a West Point oversight committee yesterday in Washington.  Hagenbeck said the decision rests with him. It's possible he'll act as early as June — after graduation and before the Class of 2012 arrives.

Random Quote:

“Throughout our history men of West Point have served their country with honor and distinction. In peace and in war they have played a significant role in the development of our nation. They have made a substantial contribution to the position now enjoyed by the United States. If much has been done in the past, much remains to be done in the future. The great scientific developments of the last few years have compressed time and vastly increased power. They have, in fact, moved us into a new age. Whether or not these changes spell progress and improvement depends to a large extent upon the wisdom and character of those who are now in the schools and colleges of our country. You and your generation are the future. You who are at West Point have a particular responsibility because of the opportunities you enjoy and the dependence that will be placed upon you…”
