Email POP users at west-point.org:
Each of you has used the POP service to pull your email to your PCs, laptops, or mobile devices in the past month so we wanted to give you a warning order of the upcoming changes.  We're upgrading our mail services at WP-ORG and wanted to let you know that there may be some configuration changes that you'll need to make in the near future.  All of the information will soon be on our main web page at http://www.west-point.org so if your mail stops working, please look there first.  The changes aren't required (or even valid) yet so we'll only post it when you need it.

What's happening?
  • We're moving to a faster server.
  • We're also moving from one style of mailbox (called an mbox) to another (maildir).  The benefit is that the newer style will work better in today's environment where many devices are reading email at the same time.  Some of you may've experienced corrupted inboxes in the past -- but with this new style, that will be much less likely.
  • We're now making our connections more secure.  Until now, we've only supported the original protocols for email, which were in plain text.  We're now requiring a secure connection (either TLS or SSL), which is why this transition will not be completely seamless to each of you.  At some point, your existing settings for POP'ing your email off of our servers will need to be changed.  We will give you those settings on our web site in the coming days.
  • If you also use our webmail client (SquirrelMail) then be assured that those folders will also be migrated and will be available to you in the future as well.
Thanks for your patience in this migration.  If you have any questions, please direct them to me or to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Sincerely,
