Derby runner-up waiting for the Belmont

The 2014 Kentucky Derby was a bit of déjà vu for Dallas Stewart. Not in a good way either. The trainer entered his second Derby starter in as many years only to see both longshots finish second best. Now, just like with Golden Soul a year ago, Stewart has decided to forego the Preakness in favor of running West Point Thoroughbreds-owned Commanding Curve in the Belmont Stakes. For West Point Thoroughbreds president and founder Terry Finley, the thrill of having a Run for the Roses runner-up was not what he expected. “People continue to ask me if it was as good as I thought ... in fact it was better and more intense than I though it was going to be,” said Terry Finley, a 1986 West Point grad who founded West Point Thoroughbreds with his wife Debbie Finley in 1991.
