Grad Services PDF Print E-mail

WP-ORG prides itself on using the expertise of our numerous volunteers, as well as our paid employees and consultants, to create solutions for the graduate community.  Over the years, we have added capabilities as needed.  The following highlights some of the things that are available.

For Individual Graduates

To access any of the services below, a graduate must activate their WP-ORG account.  The quickest way to do this is to use our account activation tool. If that doesn't work, then send a request to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

  • Each USMA graduate is provided a permanent e-mail address of the form This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it where the DDDDD represents the graduate's Cullum number.  Each graduate can also choose an alias such as This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it that may be easier for family and friends to remember.
  • Any e-mail to the graduate's address can be read using a standard POP e-mail client (e.g., Eudora, MS Outlook, etc.) or read via the web using our webmail program.
  • Each USMA graduate is also given space for a personal web page at WP-ORG. The URL for this web page is http://www.west-point.org/users/usmaYYYY/DDDDD where YYYY is the graduation year and DDDDD is the Cullum number of the graduate.  If you need unlimited bandwidth, email addresses, or domains then we recommend the commercial web host Bluehost.
  • Each USMA graduate also has access to the Graduate Living History Project web site.  This site helps document the personal histories, biographies, and war stories of each graduate.

For Classes

WP-ORG provides the following services to USMA classes.  While some of the class' graduates may be individual users of WP-ORG's services above, the class can be a user too.

  • Each graduating or current cadet class is entitled to a web site.  Our servers are mainly the LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) stack, but we do have some Windows servers that can run MS-specific applications.  The class can have the standard URL of http://www.west-point.org/class/usmaYYYYhttp://www.usmaYYYY.org.  The class web site can run any software that runs on the LAMP or WAMP stack.  This means that the class can run a content-management system like Joomla if they choose.  Several classes, such as 2004, 1987, 1989, and 1964 use Joomla to maintain a web site with dynamic content. where YYYY is the graduation year or they can choose to have it point to a domain they've purchased, such as
  • Each graduating class is also entitled to one or more e-mail distribution lists.  These lists are typically This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and are used for dissemination of information (the former) and discussion of a wide variety of topics (the latter).  These membership and content are controlled by the moderator of the list instead of being generated automatically from a database of users.
  • The Graduate Living History Project can also be used to collect information for Reunion Books.  The Class of '58 recently undertook such a project for their 50th reunion.  It allows for the collection of a broad set of data on each graduate via the web that can either be displayed on the web or ported over into book form for printing.
  • WP-ORG's web capabilities are a great help in planning and executing a reunion.  In addition to the web sites and e-mail lists, we have provided customized credit card sites to dozens of classes since 2000.  The sites not only collect the money for each event, but also the roster of names and other information necessary for the planning and execution of those events.  These sites are programmed and maintained by WP-ORG and the collected funds (minus a 5% transaction fee) are disbursed by the WP-ORG CFO to the class on a schedule that is designated by the class leadership.

For Societies and other Affinity Groups

WP-ORG provides the following services to USMA affinity groups, such as societies and parent groups.

  • Each group that is approved by the WP-ORG Board of Advisors is entitled to a web site.  Our servers, as described above, can handle most open-source content management systems as well as static HTML, so the group can create a customized site that fits their needs.
  • Each approved group is also entitled to one or more e-mail distribution lists.  These membership and content are controlled by the moderator of the list instead of being generated automatically from a database of users.
  • WP-ORG can also provide customized credit card sites for collecting membership fees, planning and executing events, and holding fundraisers.  These sites are programmed and maintained by WP-ORG and the collected funds (minus a 5% transaction fee) are disbursed by the WP-ORG CFO to the group on a schedule that is designated by the group's leadership.
