    UPDATE

My late uncle, Mack Smith, was a 4th Marine stationed in Shanghai and, of course, later the PI's and Corregidor.   While on Corregidor he was at Ramsay Ravine with "I" Co, 3d Bn.  He was a POW at Sakurajima and Akenobe Camps in Japan.

Since 1993 I have been attempting to learn as much as I can about him.   He died in December 1945,  (in an auto accident 30 days after being repatriated and returning home)  and I was born in 1949 so I never had the honor of knowing him.

Hopefully, a spot on this web page will garner responses from former Marines who knew him.   This photo is one of very few that we have.   The only writing on it is on the back and says 1940-1941.   The location is unknown; maybe someone can tell from the background.
