Hello my name is Shannon Hughes, I am trying to find information about my Great Uncle Loren Van Slyke, who was on Corregidor Island when the Japanese took them prisoner.   I know that he served under Wainwright, and that as of 1945 his family still wasn't sure if he were dead or alive.   I don't know what division he was in, or if he even survived.

Loren Van Slyke was born in Nampa, Idaho between 1918 and 1924.   He had two brothers, Leon and Norman.   His father was a minister in the Church of the Nazarene.   His father was also related to General MacArthur, (his grandmother who raised him was a MacArthur).   Don't know if that has any relevance or not.  My grandma has a picture of him in his uniform.   He has a garrison cap on.   I'll have my grandma send me a copy of the picture and look at it again.   She thinks he was in the Army.   I did find information on the Wainwright family and learned that they graduated from West Point, so I would assume that means the Wainwright he served under was Army, right?
Again thanks for any help,

Shannon Hughes
