My father is now deceased and I unfortunately do not know all the details of his ordeal. I do know that he was on Corregidor and was forced to march in the Bataan Death March.
After a long internment in the Philippines he was transferred to a POW camp in Fukuoka, Japan. According to my father he was involved in an exploit that caused him to be severely punished (tortured) by the Japanese.
I verified this by a book written by Dorothy Utinsky called "I Miss You". He also told me that he was awarded the medal of freedom for this (which we have). Also, that he testified at the Tokyo War Trials.
As you can read, my
information and details are at best sketchy. I would like to
know more about my father, his exploits and his testimony at the
trials. I was only seventeen when my father died in 1971 at the
age of 73. Though the years that I had
with my father were full of love and care, fate did not allow me to
grow into manhood with him around. Otherwise I would have
questioned him in greater detail. If you could assist me
in this endeavor, not only I, but my seven siblings would be grateful.
Thank You,
Benjamin F. Threatt
