"I am the daughter of Private Robert Irvin Shultz, S. N. 20933736. My father was captured on May 7, 1942 and liberated on Nov. 9, 1945. He was in the U. S. Army, Armored and was in Tokyo POW Camp, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan.
My father died in 1978, 33 years after he was told that he wouldn't survive the year!! Dad never talked to me about his ordeal. He was in and out of the hospital for those 33 years. My parent's marriage didn't survive past my 4th birthday and I never met him again until I was 16, briefly.
I would like
to know more about where he was and what kind of work he did etc. when
he was in the POW camp. From what I have read, I understand that
the men that survived did so out of hate and spite. I know very
little about my father and would like to know more about him. I
would like to hear old stories about him. I know he could be a
real rebel rouser. Unfortunately, the only stories I've heard
are the bitter ones of an ex-wife. I would also like to let
everyone know that because of my War Orphan status, I was able to get a
college education. I am a successful educator and work with the
underprivileged children of my community. I know it's not much,
but I like to think that I am a piece of good that came out of all of
the suffering."
Sincerely,
Robin Shultz al-Azzam
