The latter was my uncle, who was a Bataan survivor, but died in 1945 in Fukuoka, Japan. He was a medic in the Battle of Bataan, probably out of Hospital No. 1. He was made a prisoner of the Japanese, first in the Philippines and then in Japan.
The newspaper write-ups at the time of the dedication of his memorial in Providence, RI said that he served Mass for Fr. Talbot, in the POW camp. (One said in Japan, the other said in the Philippines). Fr. Talbot, who was then at Crile General Hospital in Ohio, was unable to attend the dedication, which was held on September 2, 1946. I was there as a 9-year old.
Any information you may have on either man would be
appreciated.
Thanking you in advance.
Sincerely,
Lionel A. Poirier
