Lillie Ann Morris requests information

    April 8, 1999
My father was Wright P. Shill, Jr.,of Mesa, AZ.   He was in US Navy on the Canopus, then Corregidor where he was captured.   He spent some time in one of the Cabanatuan camps, then was shipped to "Osaka Camp" for the remainder of the war.

Understandably, my father spoke very little to us about his experiences as a POW, leaving us now to wonder about many things.   As time passes, I know that the prospect of learning these details is diminishing rapidly, but I would like to acquire as much knowledge as possible about those terrible times.

I would like to know in which Cabanatuan he was imprisoned, on which Hell Ship he voyaged, and any other name that might apply to Osaka Camp.    (AXPOW lists Osaka camps: #3, Oeyama; #5-B; #12-B; and Osaka Group, Sakurajima.   Documentation from WAE lists Osaka Main Camp Chikko as my father's point of repatriation.   The recording of my father's voice, though, said he was from Osaka Camp.)   I am also interested in learning any other details about my father's military and imprisonment experiences that might be known.

    Thank you,
    Lillie Ann Morris
