Joseph M. Hawes has Request
My father was Milton D. Hawes.
He transferred from the CCC to the Army and trained at Camp
Wallace, Texas. He volunteered to go to the Philippines.
He was a Captain in the 59th Coast Artillery, and arrived on Corregidor
in the fall of 1941. He was in Cabanatuan #3 and later #1, and
was then transferred to Lipa, near Batangas, where the men
worked on building an airfield.
Later, (details sketchy here) he was
transferred to Japan via Formosa and was in Kawasaki when the war
ended.
Many thanks for your help.
Joe Hawes
