"I am a shirt-tail relative of a survivor of Japanese POW camps.   My relative's name is Dr. John Raulston, Major, MD.   I am looking for information about him and some of the circumstances of his imprisonment and release.

John and his wife Vivian were in the Philippines, Vivian left but not at the first opportunity, according to John.   John was in the 12th Medical Battalion attached to Hospital #1, and sent to O'Donnell after the Death March.

I have several POW "postcards" sent home to Vivian from "Philippine Military Prison #1", which tells me John was at Cabanatuan quite some time.   John refrained from telling the most disastrous stories, just that he was on a hellship, in a hold.   After his hospital stay, Col. Eugene Jacobs said in his book "Blood Brothers" that he was reunited with John Raulston who cared for him during the trip and during their subsequent imprisonment at Mukden.

I'd like to know of any resources that refer to:

      * describing the medical care, etc. especially at Hospital in Bataan,
      * the medical care in Cabanatuan,
      * rosters of hellships, would like to confirm the ship John was on,
      * which Fukukoa camp he would have been in
      * any personal contact would be wonderful."

    Thank you, Liz Gustafson
