I am trying to contact anyone who may have known my father-in-law, Cpl. Walter J. Cox.   He served with the 31st, I-Co. as a medical corpsman.   He was awarded the Silver Star for an action on 19 January, 1942.   He died when his son, my husband Riley, was very young.

I would like to put together a memory book about Walter who was killed in a mining accident in 1959 when Riley was 12 years old.   Riley's two youngest brothers don't remember their father at all, so this information would be wonderful for them also.

Shortly after Walter's death, his brother George was at their house, and found Walter's medals thrown in the garbage by his mother.   He retrieved them, and recently sent them to us with the Silver Star citation.   That is what started this search.   I hope that someone will remember Walter Cox and contact me.   I would appreciate it very much!
