Dale Butler is looking for information
about his uncle, Ray Butler, U.S. Navy
I came across your address while browsing through some
veterans sites. The name of your organization, 'American Defenders of
Bataan and Corregidor' brought back to my memory my uncle, who
served at Corregidor and was subsequently taken prisoner in the early
days of WWII.
I didn't know my uncle well. His experiences while a POW
made him a rather reserved person. However, I did see him a few times
when I returned from Korea, and enjoyed his company and
conversations. I last saw him in 1959, and presume him to now be dead.
I
wonder if you may have any information about him. Though we spoke
about many things, he never opened up any conversation about his
experience as a prisoner, and I respected his wishes by not inquiring of
them. As all of my relatives are now deceased, I'd be interested to know
anything about my uncle. I would certainly appreciate any info you
might have.
Ray Butler was in the Navy, I think he was
a CPO and was in the Death March. When I knew him, he lived in a
cabin near Vancouver, Washington. I have an old photo of him aboard
what looks to be a WWII era destroyer. I hope you or some members of
your organization knew him and can tell me something about him.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Dale Butler,
Sequim, Washington
