What information I have is contained in an unsigned carbon-copy of a letter written by my father.   It is transcribed (exactly, with spelling errors, etc.).   He was Army and a Corporal; and I presume that's his service number at the beginning.   The letter is as follows:

    15 February 46
I, Cpl Andy E. Brown, ASN 34 049 906, do hereby state that I was taken prisoner of war 6 May 1942 to 4 Sep 1945.   I was taken to Corredador 6 May 1942 to 28 May 1942.   I was taken to Cabanatuan 28 May 1942 to 8 Sep 1942.   I was taken to Pasay 8 Sep 1942 till 18 Mar 1943.   I was taken to Bilibid 18 Mar 1943 till 15 July 1944.   I was taken to Japan 6 Aug 1944 till 4 Sep 1945.   I was liberated by American Marines and the Navy 4 Sep 1945, taken to Okinawa, then to P.I. then to Letterman Gen Hosp. 8 Oct 1945.

While a prisoner of war I was treated for, Beri-Beri, and both eyes.   I went blind February 1943 and was treated at a prison camp hospital left 15 July 1944.

I have been a patient at Valley Forge General Hospital, Phoenixville, Penna. - 20 Oct 1945.   I am being treated for Malnutrition, Neuritis, chornic, optic, with atrophy.

The above statements are true and correct to the best of my knowledge.

    ANDY E. BROWN
    Cpl 34 049 906

Subscribed and sworn to before me this 15th day of February 1946.
    Signed,
