I received snail mail from a man in England trying to find a John O. Manning or his family.   This man, Mr. Robert F. Ross has a mess tin he found while in the Pacific during WWII and has kept it all these years and would like to try to return it.

It says "John O. Manning, 59th CA, Corregidor, August 1942".
Other scrapes or scratches, are "?? Goodman, ?? S.T. ? cabin of an ??, Philippines Islands".

Mr. Ross is not sure where he found it at New Guinea, Bouganville or Mindanao but would like to find Mr. Manning to return it.   Can anyone help?

      UPDATE:
      24 May 2001

The official ADBC membership file does not list the name of John O. Manning.

However, POW Martin Christie (WebTeam Researcher) has uncovered some address information about Manning's parents.

    Martin writes:

"Some years ago I purchased the 2nd Edition of "Heroes of BATAAN Corregidor and Northern Luzon".   The book, published in New Mexico, while dedicated to those from New Mexico, covers many other POWs.   I find a Sgt. John O. Manning of Battery K, 59th CA on page 130.   I do not find him listed in any of the other books I have.   His parents are listed as residing in Rochester, NY."
