As he was dying he asked him
one thing
To make sure his wife got his wedding ring
And then he knew
What he had to do
For his buddy it was the end
But he knew what he would do for his friend
So he took their symbol of their love forever
Although he knew they would never be together
He knew the war would be over one day
So he knew he would have to find a way
So he took the ring and clutched it tight
And kept it from the enemy's sight
So he hid it up as high as can be
Where the enemy could not see
And kept it there until the war was at an end
And set out to find the wife of his dear friend
When he found her he didn't know what to say
So he told her the story of that day
And as the tears came rolling down her cheek
He knew his mission was complete.
